Abstract
The two objectives of this document are to provide an overview of crime trends in Arizona and to provide the Governor, criminal justice community, and citizens of Arizona with a review of the criminal justice system in the State in accordance with State law. The document begins with a brief summary of Arizona population trends over the past 10 years and a comparative analysis with national population trends over the same period. Data from the National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) and the Uniform Crime Report (UCR) were used to compare crime trends. Data were also obtained from the Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC), the Arizona Department of Corrections, the Arizona Department of Public Safety, and the Department of Juvenile Corrections. The section on the Arizona Department of Public Safety provides crime trends for the violent crime offenses of murder, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault, and for the property crime offenses of burglary, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft. The section on the AOC provides data for the Court Services Division, the Adult Services Division, and the Juvenile Justice Services Division. The section for the Department of Juvenile Corrections provides data on the gender, race/ethnicity, age, most serious committing offense, and total number of juveniles in custody. Information from the Department of Corrections is provided on the prison population growth trend; the incarceration rate trend; prison admissions, releases, and time served; prison population forecasting; offenders under community supervision; staffing and expenditures; and inmate population profile. The document ends with a discussion of the findings from this report. Bibliography, 60 tables, and 31 figures
