This report presents a statistical analysis of rape in the State of Alabama for the years of 1999-2003.
Abstract
Compiled from offense reports submitted by law enforcement agencies to the State of Alabama’s Uniform Crime Reporting program, this statistical analysis of rape is intended to analyze rape trends for the years 1999-2003 and to specifically investigate possible causes for the increase in reported rapes between 2001 and 2002. The report examines rape circumstances, weapons used, relationships of victims and offenders, location, and other statistical data compiled about rape for the State. The year 2003 revealed the number of rapes remained steady which indicated that the 17 percent increase between 2001 and 2002 was not a one time error in reporting, but an actual indication of an increase in criminal activity. This 17 percent increase between 2001 and 2002 was the largest increase in 25 years. Tables
