This resources directory describes and provides information on child sexual abuse prevention organizations, programs, initiatives, and resources that are unique, innovative, and/or available for purchase, or could be used as a model for other programs and communities.
Abstract
It primarily includes information on child sexual abuse prevention efforts in the United States, with some resources based in Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia. The directory listings are preceded by descriptions of the work of various organizations committed to preventing and responding to child sexual abuse, as well as a paper on the importance of bringing public health science to the prevention of child sexual abuse. A section on "Research and Resources" addresses the costs and consequences of child sexual abuse; developing selecting, and evaluating child sexual abuse prevention programs and initiatives; and a selected bibliography of research articles. The main body of the directory consists of an alphabetical list of organizations with resources, programs, and initiatives related to child sexual abuse prevention. In addition to the title and description of each program, information covers the street address, phone numbers, fax number, e-mail address, Web site address, the target population served by the program/organization, and any material available for purchase. A separate section of the directory lists and describes Web sites that provide information for children, teens, parents, and educators pertinent to preventing online child sexual abuse and exploitation. Selected bibliographies list articles and reports on child sexual abuse prevention; books for adults, professionals, and parents; and a book list for children. Organization and directory indexes are provided.
