Abstract
The chapter that presents statistics on the production of opium/heroin, coca/cocaine, and cannabis focuses on each of the major countries involved in the drug's production. For opium/heroin, this includes Afghanistan, Myanmar, and Lao PDR. For coca/cocaine, the countries are Colombia, Peru, and Bolivia. For cannabis, the country is Morocco. The types of statistics provided for each country differ according to the data that were available. For amphetamine-type stimulants and "other drugs," statistics are provided on seizures of illicit laboratories. Another chapter presents separate statistics for seizures of opiates, cocaine, cannabis, and amphetamine-type stimulants for the years 1998-2003. A chapter on prices for these four drug types addresses wholesale prices, street prices, and purity levels. The fourth chapter focuses on consumption. Statistics are presented on the annual prevalence of abuse of opiates, cocaine, cannabis, amphetamine-type stimulants, and ecstasy. Data are also provided on treatment demand that involves the primary drugs of abuse. Extensive tables
