This fifth edition (2007) of the Directory of Federal Resources on Missing and Exploited Children is designed to help law enforcement and other public and private agencies involved in work on behalf of missing, abducted, and exploited children and their families contact appropriate Federal agencies to assist them in their activities.
Abstract
The directory provides information on various Federal agencies listed under the U.S. Departments of Defense, Education, Health and Human Services, Homeland Security, Housing and Urban Development, Justice, and State, as well as the U.S. Postal Service. For each agency listed, the directory defines its mission and services in relation to missing, abducted, and exploited children and their families. Other information for each listing includes eligibility criteria for accessing the agency's services and resources, procedures for receiving services, publications, and agency contacts. Information on contacts includes job title, office address, phone number, and fax number. In addition to Federal agencies, information is provided on two nongovernmental national organizations: the Association of Missing and Exploited Children's Organizations, Inc. and the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children. One section of the directory lists agencies by type of resources offered, such as training, technical assistance, legal assistance to children and families, and research and evaluation. Twelve appendixes provide supplementary contact information for various Federal agencies and national organizations. The directory provides telephone quick reference cards for each agency that can be removed and kept in an appropriate place.
