FINDINGS OF THE 1971 DAYTON/MONTOGOMERY COUNTY VICTIMIZATION STUDY WHICH SURVEYED APPROXIMATELY THREE PER CENT OF THE CITY'S AND COUNTY'S HOUSEHOLDS.
Abstract
IN THIS STUDY, DETAILS ARE CITED ON THE NUMBER OF VICTIMS OF CRIMES COMMITTED AGAINST PERSONS. VICTIMS ARE CHARACTERIZED BY AGE, SEX, RACE, INCOME, EDUCATIONAL LEVEL AND AREA OF RESIDENCE. ALSO, THE OFFENDER'S PERCEIVED AGE, RACE AND SEX ARE GIVEN. OTHER FACTORS, SUCH AS TYPE OF WEAPON USED AND THE HOUR AND PLACE OF OCCURRENCE, ARE INCLUDED. THE FOREGOING INFORMATION IS GIVEN IN TWO OFFENDER CATEGORIES, TOTAL PERSONAL CRIMES AND STRANGER-TO-STRANGER PERSONAL CRIMES. FINALLY, THE UNREPORTED PERSONAL CRIME RATES, REASONS GIVEN FOR NOT REPORTING, AND POSSIBLE POLICY IMPLICATIONS FROM VICTIMIZATION STUDIES ARE REPORTED. SPECIFIC SURVEY RESPONSES ARE PRESENTED IN TABULAR FORM. VICTIMIZATION RATES ARE BASED UPON THE NUMBER OF PERSONS VICTIMIZED. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
