The guide first presents a short narrative on housing options with a chart that describes six alternatives for reentry housing: private-market rental housing, public housing, affordable housing (nonprofit or privately owned and managed), halfway house, supportive housing, and specialized reentry housing. For each of these types of housing, the chart outlines its features, benefits, and potential limitations. The guide's next section examines three approaches for improving the availability of the housing options for the reentry population (greater access, increased housing stock, and revitalized neighborhoods). Examples of how each of these approaches has been implemented by a particular jurisdiction are provided.
