This book, Sourcebook on Violence Against Women, presents an update on current research and reflections on violence against women.
Abstract
This book is intended for use by policymakers, advocates, and researchers as well as for students in advanced undergraduate and graduate courses that cover violence against women, family violence, and violent crime. The book contains 18 chapters that cover the current state of research, theory, prevention, and intervention on the subject of violence against women. The chapters are divided into three main sections. Part 1 contains three chapters that address 1) Theoretical and Definitional Issues in Violence Against Women; 2) Research Methods, Measures, and Ethics; and 3) Assessing Violence Against Women in Practice Settings: Processes and Tools Practitioners Can Use. Part 2 contains six chapters that examine the following types of violence against women: 4) Sexual Harassment: Violence Against Women at Work and in Schools; 5) Defining the Scope of Sexual Violence Against Women; 6) Intimate Partner Violence Against Women; 7) Pornography; 8) Cultural Issues in Violence Against Women; and 9) Economic Issues and Intimate Partner Violence. Part 3 contains nine chapters that discuss prevention and direct intervention for violence against women: 10) State, National, and International Legal Initiatives to Address Violence Against Women: A Survey; 11) Primary Prevention; 12) Sexual Assault Services; 13) An Overview of Community-Based Services for Battered Women; 14) Violence Against Women and the Criminal Justice Response; 15) Health Care for Survivors of Partner and Sexual Violence; 16) Faith-Based Programs and Interventions; 17) School-Based Dating Violence Prevention: From Single Events to Evaluated, Integrated Programming; and 18) Intervening With Men for Violence Prevention.
