For over a century, Big Brothers Big Sisters has been helping change kids' perspectives, giving them the opportunity to reach their potential. Big Brothers Big Sisters operates in approximately 370 communities across the United States. Local agencies work with colleagues across the Nation to design and develop programs that are tailored to their communities. The organization targets the children who need help, including those living in single parent homes, growing up in poverty, and coping with parental incarceration. A variety of programs pair children, ages 6 through 18, with role models in one-to-one relationships. Big Brothers Big Sisters partner with individual donors, foundations, corporations, governments, and others to build a network of support that funds and enables the work of carefully matching children with adult mentors and providing ongoing support to the child, volunteer mentor, and child's family. Professionally trained Big Brothers Big Sisters staff members work with partners in the education and juvenile justice communities to find children facing adversity and assess how the organization's programs can have the greatest impact. In addition to profiling the organization, its mission, and programs, viewers of the Web site are given the opportunity to volunteer and make financial contributions to Big Brothers Big Sisters.
