This Bulletin reports on programs, events, and training opportunities that pertain to law enforcement agencies involved in the Community-Based Crime Reduction (CBCR) initiative.
Abstract
The Bulletin's first section presents brief reports on significant events in 10 CBCR sites. Online access is provided for expanded descriptions of these events. One involved a joint initiative between national and local law enforcement organizations that resulted in multiple arrests and the confiscation of just over 20 firearms. Other events involved improved homicide clearance rates, data-driven tools to combat violent crime, and an effort to counter black-market marijuana sales. The Bulletin announces and describes three grant programs: a community policing development program, mentoring opportunities for youth, and research and evaluation on drugs and crime. Descriptions of upcoming events address an officer safety and wellness symposium (February 2020), a symposium on violent crime (May 2020), the IACP Technology Conference (May 2020), and the Coalition for Juvenile Justice 2020 Annual Conference (June 2020). Descriptions of upcoming webinars involve the assessment of childhood trauma (March 2020), how policing can build community confidence and promote officer safety (March 2020), and involving communities in coordinated responses (March 2020). Descriptions of online learning courses pertain to prioritization of officer mental and emotional health, issues in the opioid epidemic, and sustainability for place-based crime- reduction initiatives. The Bulletin concludes with highlights from the CBCR sites.
