THIS REPORT CONTAINS A REVIEW OF LITERATURE RELEVANT TO THE PATROL OPERATIONS OF CIVILIAN CLOTHES UNITS AND UNIFORMED TACTICAL UNITS AND THE USE OF MECHANICAL DEVICES, AND THE EVALUATION OF THESE ACTIVITIES.
Abstract
THIS LITERATURE REVIEW IS SUPPLEMENTED WITH THE PRELIMINARY FINDINGS GATHERED FROM A SURVEY OF POLICE DEPARTMENTS CONDUCTED BY THE INSTITUTE FOR HUMAN RESOURCES RESEARCH IN BETHESDA, MARYLAND. THE MAJOR ISSUES INVESTIGATED IN THIS REPORT ARE: THE TYPES, USES AND EFFECTS OF SPECIALIZED PATROL; THE METHODS OF DATA COLLECTION AND REVIEW; THE ORGANIZATIONAL CONSEQUENCES OF SPECIALIZATION; THE IMPACT OF SPECIALIZED PATROL ON THE COMMUNITY; AND THE EVALUATION OF SPECIALIZED PATROL ACTIVITIES. THE THREE TYPES OF SPECIALIZED PATROL ARE FURTHER ANALYZED BY USES - LOCATION ORIENTED, CRIME ORIENTED, OR SUSPECT ORIENTED.
