THIS ARTICLE IDENTIFIES KEY DEFINITIONS, CONCEPTS, AND APPROACHES USED IN A TRAINING COURSE FOR POLICE CRIME PREVENTION OFFICERS ON THE SUBJECT OF INTRUSION DETECTION SYSTEMS.
Abstract
A SYSTEMS APPROACH IS USED THAT DIVIDES COMPONENTS INTO THREE FUNCTIONS: CONTROL, SENSOR, AND ANNUNCIATION. PHYSIOLOGICAL ANALOGIES ARE USED TO EXPLAIN THE FUNCTIONS AND MAKE PARALLELS BETWEEN INTRUSION DETECTION SYSTEMS AND GUARDS OR GUARD ANIMALS. THIS PROGRAM IS DESIGNED SO THAT POLICE OFFICERS, WHEN INSPECTING THE SECURITY SYSTEMS OF PREMISES, CAN CONSIDER EACH FUNCTIONAL ELEMENT AND SELECT OR SUGGEST SUITABLE DEVICES. DETAILED DEFINITIONS OF RELEVANT TERMS ARE PROVIDED. INMATES, IT IS OFTEN AVOIDED BY OTHER GUARDS AND INMATES.
