Abstract
AMONG THE STEPS INDIVIDUALS CAN TAKE WHICH ARE DISCUSSED ARE RESIDENCY RELOCATION AND THE USE OF ALARMS. POLICIES DISCUSSED INCLUDE DISARMING THE CRIMINAL, AND THE EFFECTIVENESS OF PRISONS AND JAILS. CHARTS SHOWING COSTS OF MAINTAINING PRISON FACILITIES AND THE RELATIONSHIP OF PRISONS TO REDUCTIONS IN ROBBERY AND OTHER CRIMES ARE GIVEN. A BIBLIOGRAPHY ON ALL TOPICS COVERED APPEARS AT THE END. THREE APPENDIXES DEAL WITH THE COMPARABILITY OF CRIME RATE ESTIMATES AS THE NATIONAL OPINION RESEARCH CENTER AND THE NATIONAL CRIME SURVEY; ERRORS IN THE PROBABILITY OF ARREST MEASUREMENTS; AND MATHEMATICAL DEVIATIONS OF AN INCAPACITATION (INCARCERATION) MODEL.
