THE PURPOSES OF THIS FILM ARE TO ALERT GIRLS AND WOMEN TO THE SPECIAL DANGERS THEY MAY FACE; TO SUGGEST WAYS OF PREVENTING TROUBLE, OR OF COPING WITH IT; AND TO HELP EDUCATE POLICE AND SECURITY PERSONNEL IN THIS AREA.
Abstract
DRAMATIZED INCIDENTS SHOW HOW WOMEN CAN MINIMIZE THE DANGERS OF PERSONAL ASSAULT. AMONG THE SITUATIONS SHOWN ARE THOSE DEALING WITH GETTING INTO A CAR IN THE GARAGE; HAVING MOTOR TROUBLE ALONG THE HIGHWAY; BEING FOLLOWED BY ANOTHER CAR; RIDING IN BUS OR SUBWAY; GOING TO A RESIDENTIAL AREA AT NIGHT; AND WALKING AT NIGHT. OTHER SITUATIONS INCLUDE HITCH-HIKING; HAVING A PURSE SNATCHED; LIVING ALONE IN A BIG APARTMENT BUILDING; WALKING IN THE PARK; ENCOUNTERING A VOYEUR AND AN EXHIBITIONIST; A LOVER'S LANE ATTACK; AND A MUGGER. SOME TIPS ARE GIVEN DON'T CARRY A LOT OF MONEY; LEAVE A LIGHT OR A RADIO ON IN AN EMPTY APARTMENT OR HOME; AVOID DARK STREETS; USE A TAXI AT NIGHT; IF ATTACKED - SCREAM AND KICK THE ASSAILANT'S KNEE OR GROIN. A KARATE INSTRUCTOR REPORTS THAT LESSONS IN SELF-DEFENSE TECHNIQUES ARE NOT MUCH USE UNLESS THE WOMAN KEEPS IN CONSTANT PRACTICE. A POLICEWOMAN AND OTHERS RECOMMEND USING COMMON SENSE AND STAYING AWAY FROM DANGERS.
