THE OPENING SECTION OF THE MANUAL COVERS THE GENERAL MORPHOLOGY OF STEM, FRUIT, SEEDS, ETC., IN SUCH A MANNER THAT IT EASILY RELATES TO THE SLIDES AND DETAILED DISCUSSION OF THE 63 INDIVIDUAL PLANTS THAT FOLLOWS. EMPHASIS IS PLACED ON THE HISTOLOGY OF EDIBLE PARTS. OTHER TOPICS CONTAINED IN THE MANUAL INCLUDE SLIDE PREPARATION, GASTRIC RETENTION TIME, THE BEGINNINGS OF GASTRIC PHYSIOLOGY, PALEOBIOLOGY OF FOOD MATERIALS, AND GENERAL BOTANICAL ASPECTS. DESCRIPTIONS OF THE 63 PLANTS THAT APPEAR ON THE SLIDES ARE PROVIDED. THE SLIDES ARE ARRANGED IN A CONTAINER SO THAT DESIGNATIONS PRINTED ON THEM (SUCH AS ANISE, BEAN, OR ORANGE) ARE READILY VISIBLE.
