A PROCEDURE IS DESCRIBED WHICH MAY BE USED AS AN ADJUNCT TO MICROSCOPIC AND EXAMINATIONS TO ESTIMATE FIRING DISTANCES THAT IS BASED ON THE PATTERN OF FRAGMENTS AND RESIDUES ON THE SKIN.
Abstract
THESE PATTERNS AND RESIDUES ARE DEPOSITED BY NON-JACKETED LEAD BULLETS IN CASES OF CONTACT AND CLOSE GUNSHOT WOUNDS. THE METHOD DESCRIBED HERE, SOFT TISSUE RADIOGRAPHY, PERMITS THE DETECTION OF THESE RESIDUES AND PATTERNS.
