DETAILED ACCOUNT OF A MASS KIDNAPPING OF FOREIGN NATIONALS IN CUBA IN 1958 RECONSTRUCTED FROM NORTH AMERICAN PRESS ACCOUNTS, CONTEMPORARY REBEL PRONOUNCEMENTS, AND REACTIONS OF U.S. OFFICIALS.
Abstract
THE IMPORTANCE OF THIS AND SUBSEQUENT KIDNAPPING EPISODES AS FORERUNNERS OF THE BLOODY TECHNIQUES OF REVOLUTIONARY COERCION USED IN THE 1970'S IS EMPHASIZED. THE LESSONS LEARNED ABOUT COERCION FOR PUBLICITY IN THE CUBAN INCIDENT ARE COMPARED WITH THOSE LEARNED IN THE 1904 KIDNAPPING OF A GREEK CITIZEN AND A BRITISH CITIZEN BY A MORROCAN BANDIT.
