REPORT ON RESEARCH TO DETERMINE THE EXTENT OF CRIMINAL MISCHIEF AND OTHER MAJOR CRIMES COMMITTED IN THE BEXAR COUNTY (TX) SCHOOLS CONDUCTED BY SENIORS IN THE PUBLIC JUSTICE DEPARTMENTS OF A LOCAL UNIVERSITY.
Abstract
THE STUDY WAS UNDERTAKEN TO PROMOTE PUBLIC AWARENESS AND GENERATE INTEREST IN ATTACKING THE PROBLEM OF CRIMINAL MISCHIEF IN SCHOOLS, ON SCHOOL PROPERTY, AND ON SCHOOL BUSES. A QUESTIONNAIRE WAS DESIGNED AND STATISTICS WERE COLLECTED IN REGARD TO HOMICIDE/MANSLAUGHTER; ASSAULT; ROBBERY; ARSON; CRIMINAL MISCHIEF; BURGLARY; BREAKING AND ENTERING; THEFT; BOMBINGS AND BOMB THREATS; SEX OFFENSES; AND POSSESSION, SALE, OR USE OF WEAPONS, ALCOHOL, MARIJUANA OR DRUGS. A TOTAL OF 230 SCHOOLS WERE SURVEYED FOR 1974 AND 1975. DATA ON THE INCIDENCE OF THESE CRIMES AND THEIR COST TO THE COUNTY ARE PRESENTED IN TABULAR FORM AND COMPARISONS ARE MADE WHENEVER POSSIBLE RECOMMENDATIONS ARE DIVIDED INTO FOUR CATEGORIES, INCLUDING EQUIPMENT, SCHOOL/COMMUNITY RELATIONS, RECORD KEEPING, AND ADMINISTRATIVE COMMUNICATIONS.
