EVALUATION OF THE EFFECTIVENESS OF MHHI'S (MASSACHUSETTS HALFWAY HOUSES, INC) COMMUNITY BASED PRE-RELEASE PROGRAMS IN ACHIEVING THE GOAL OF REDUCING RECIDIVISM.
Abstract
EXPECTED RATES OF RECIDIVISM WERE CONSTRUCTED FOR THE STUDY GROUP OF RESIDENTS RELEASED FROM MHHI FACILITIES DURING 1974 AND COMPARED WITH ACTUAL RECIDIVISM RATES. OF THE 41 INDIVIDUALS SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETING PRE-RELEASE PROGRAMS OPERATED BY MHHI IN 1974, ONLY FOUR RECIDIVATED FOR AN OVERALL RATE OF 9.8 PERCENT. THIS WAS 12.5 PERCENT BELOW THE EXPECTED RATE. THE EVALUATOR CONCLUDES THAT THIS DIFFERENCE APPROACHES STATISTICAL SIGNIFICANCE.
