Annotation: REPORT ON A TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE STUDY OF THE SAULT SAINTE MARIE (MI) POLICE DEPARTMENT TO RECOMMEND CHANGES WITH EMPHASIS ON ORGANIZATION, MANPOWER, MANAGEMENT, AND PROMOTION AND TRANSFER.
Abstract: ON-SITE EVALUATION OF THE DEPARTMENT WAS CONDUCTED DURING THE PERIOD JUNE 6-9, 1976 DURING WHICH TIME THE CONSULTANT INTERVIEWED MEMBERS OF THE DEPARTMENT AND CITY OFFICIALS, OBSERVED POLICE PROCEDURES, AND EXAMINED RECORDS AND REPORTS. RECOMMENDATIONS INCLUDE ELIMINATION OF SUPERVISORY POSITIONS ON THE DETECTIVE SQUAD AND ASSIGNMENT OF ONE DETECTIVE TO THE NIGHT SHIFT; REVAMPING MANPOWER IN AND DEPLOYMENT OF SQUAD CARS; AND INSTITUTING A JOINT DISPATCH SYSTEM WITH THE SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT AS A MEANS OF BRINGING ABOUT A SAVINGS IN MANPOWER. APPENDIXES CONTAIN CHARTS OF THE ACTUAL AND PROPOSED ORGANIZATION OF THE DEPARTMENT AND A PROPOSED SCHEDULE OF SHIFT ASSIGNMENTS.
