REPORT ON A PROJECT TO PROVIDE, ON REQUEST, ASSISTANCE TO STATE AND LOCAL AGENCIES IN DEVELOPING AND IMPLEMENTING THE COMPREHENSIVE DATA SYSTEM (CDS) PROGRAM.
Abstract
TO ACHIEVE PROJECT GOALS, A THREE-STEP APPROACH WAS DESIGNED (AND IS DOCUMENTED IN THE REPORT) TO PROVIDE THIS TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE. FIRST WAS TO DEVELOP THE TECHNOLOGY TO IMPLEMENT CENTRALIZED DATA BASES AT THE STATE LEVEL FOR THE UNIFORM CRIME REPORTING, OFFENDER BASED TRANSACTION STATISTICS, AND MANAGEMENT AND ADMINISTRATIVE STATISTICS COMPONENTS OF THE CDS PROGRAM. SECOND WAS TO DEVELOP REPORTING STANDARDS SPECIFYING THE CRITERIA FOR LOCAL INPUT TO THE CENTRALIZED DATA BASES. THIRD WAS TO PROVIDE THE TECHNOLOGY FOR THE USE OF CDS DATA BY NATIONAL, STATE, AND LOCAL AGENCIES.
