BOOK REPORTING THE FINDINGS OF A STUDY OF THE 41 OKLAHOMA POLICE OFFICERS MURDERED BETWEEN 1950 AND 1974 AND PROPOSING COUNTERMEASURES WHICH CAN BE EFFECTED BY POLICE AND PUBLIC OFFICIALS TO REDUCE POLICE VICTIMIZATION.
Abstract
BACKGROUND INFORMATION INCLUDING NATIONAL POLICE ASSAULT STATISTICS AND LEGISLATIVE ACTION AS WELL AS PREVIOUS RESEARCH IN THE FIELD IS PROVIDED. THE FIRST SECTION OF THE BOOK PRESENTS DATA ON THE PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE POLICE OFFICER VICTIMS. SUBSEQUENT SECTIONS OFFER DESCRIPTIONS OF THE INCIDENTS SURROUNDING THE OFFICERS' DEATHS AND PROVIDE DATA ON SUSPECTS' PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS, ARRESTS, AND DISPOSITIONS. THE FINAL CHAPTER OF THE BOOK PROPOSES POLICE TRAINING, EQUIPMENT, JAIL, AND LEGISLATIVE COUNTERMEASURES FOR REDUCING ATTACKS ON POLICE.
