AFTER PRESENTING A BRIEF BACKGROUND ON THE TECHNIQUES AND BENEFITS OF TRANSCENDENTAL MEDITATION (TM), THIS BOOKLET DESCRIBES THE APPLICATION OF TM TO REHABILITATION FOR MENTAL HEALTH, CORRECTIONS, ALCOHOLISM, AND DRUG ABUSE.
Abstract
TRANSCENDENTAL MEDITATION IS A MENTAL PROCEDURE WHICH IS REPORTED TO PRODUCE PROFOUND PHYSICAL REST, DECREASES IN STRESS AND ANXIETY, INCREASED ENERGY, AND GREATER CLARITY OF THINKING. IT CAN BE LEARNED THROUGH A PROGRAM OF INSTRUCTION CARRIED OUT BY QUALIFIED TM TEACHERS. A PROGRAM OF TM INSTRUCTION FOR REHABILITATION PROGRAMS IS AVAILABLE THROUGH THE INSTITUTE FOR SOCIAL REHABILITATION. THE AUTHOR MAINTAINS THAT THE BENEFITS OF TRANSCENDENTAL MEDITATION ARE WELL SUITED TO THE REHABILITATION ENVIRONMENT, AND DESCRIBES THE APPLICATIONS OF THIS TECHNIQUE TO SPECIFIC REHABILITATIVE PROGRAMS. THE FINAL SECTION PRESENTS QUOTATIONS FROM RESEARCH STUDIES ON THE BENEFITS OF TM CONDUCTED IN THE AREAS OF PSYCHIATRY, PHYSIOLOGY, MEDICINE, PSYCHOLOGY, DRUG REHABILITATION, AND CORRECTIONS.
