Annotation: DATED NOVEMBER 1976, THIS REPORT REVIEWS THE TECHNICAL FEASIBILITY OF THE COMMUNICATIONS PLAN DEVELOPED FOR THE VIRGINIA STATE POLICE, AND PROPOSES MODIFICATIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT OF THE PLAN.
Abstract: ON JULY 1, 1976, THE VIRGINIA STATE POLICE BEGAN DEVELOPING A PLAN TO UPGRADE ITS COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM. AS THE CAPABILITY FOR STATION-TO-STATION AND CAR-TO-CAR COMMUNICATIONS WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE ORIGINAL PLAN, A PLAN MODIFICATION WAS PROPOSED TO ADD THESE CAPABILITIES. THIS TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE EFFORT WAS UNDERTAKEN TO ENSURE THE TECHNICAL FEASIBILITY OF THESE MODIFICATIONS. IT WAS FOUND THAT THE VEHICULAR REPEATER AND THE PORTABLE RADIO WITH A VEHICULAR BATTERY CHARGER, RF AMPLIFIER PROPOSED IN THE MODIFICATION WAS REALISTIC FROM AN EQUIPMENT APPLICATION STANDPOINT. HOWEVER, A NUMBER OF PROBLEMS WOULD BE REALIZED BECAUSE OF VHF BAND USE. IT IS, THEREFORE, RECOMMENDED IN THIS REPORT THAT THE PLAN BE MODIFIED TO DESIGNATE FREQUENCIES IN THE UHF BAND FOR THE PORTABLE RADIOS, RATHER THAN THE PROPOSED VHF BAND FREQUENCIES. ALTERNATIVE RECOMMENDATIONS TO BE USED IN THE EVENT THAT UHF FREQUENCIES CANNOT BE OBTAINED ARE ALSO PROVIDED....DMC
