Annotation: THIS THREE-PART PROFILE DISPLAYS IN TABULAR FORM YEARLY DATA FROM 1966 TO 1975, FIVE-YEAR PROJECTIONS FOR SELECTED LINE ITEMS, AND REFERENCE TABLES DISPLAYING CROSS TABULATIONS OF SELECTED DATE ELEMENTS.
Abstract: ALL DATA IN THE PROFILE ARE REPORTED BY STATE AND COUNTY AGENCIES AND HAVE BEEN SUMMARIZED FROM STATISTICAL REPORTING SYSTEMS. LINE ITEMS ARE DIVIDED INTO SECTIONS DEALING WITH CRIMES, ARRESTS, PROCESSES, PERSONNEL, EXPENDITURES, AND CORRECTIONAL ACTIONS. THE PROJECTIONS CONSIST OF CURVE FITTING BY THE METHOD OF LEAST SQUARES. TWO TYPES OF EQUATIONS WERE USED - LINEAR AND EXPONENTIAL. BOTH EQUATIONS WERE APPLIED TO THE GIVEN DATA, THE STANDARD ERROR OF EACH WAS CALCULATED, AND THE EQUATION WITH THE SMALLER STANDARD ERROR WAS THEN CHOSEN. A TABLE OF VALUES (CONSISTING OF THE YEAR, ACTUAL VALUE, PROJECTED VALUES, AND THE TWO STANDARD ERRORS) IS PRINTED THROUGH 1980 FOR SEVEN MAJOR OFFENSES, ADULT FELONY ARRESTS REPORTED, ADULT MISDEMEANOR ARRESTS, JUVENILE ARRESTS, AND SUPERIOR COURT FILINGS.
