REPORT DESCRIBES ATTEMPTS BY NATIONAL GATHERINGS TO FORMULATE AND ACQUAINT PARTICIPANTS WITH STANDARD AND PLANNED PAROLE PRACTICES.
Abstract
IN 1975 AND 1976, THE NATIONAL COUNCIL ON CRIME AND DELINQUENCY HELD TWO FIVE-DAY NATIONAL PAROLE INSTITUTES AND THREE THREE-DAY PAROLE POLICY SEMINARS. THE GATHERINGS DREW REPRESENTATION FROM NEARLY EVERY STATE PAROLE BOARD. THE GOALS OF THE INSTITUTES WERE TO ACQUAINT PARTICIPANTS WITH CHANGES OCCURRING IN CORRECTIONAL PROGRAMMING AND ORGANIZATIONS, AND TO INCREASE PARTICIPANTS' FAMILIARITY WITH COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY. THEY ALSO INCLUDED EXAMINING NEW PROCEDURES TO IMPLEMENT RECENT SUPREME COURT DECISIONS, AND PROVIDING A PUBLICATION VEHICLE FOR THE SHARING OF PLANNED OR IMPLEMENTED CHANGES WITHIN THE PAROLE SYSTEMS OF VARIOUS STATES. THE SEMINARS' OBJECTIVE WAS TO EXAMINE STANDARDS FOR PAROLE DECISIONMAKING AND ADMINISTRATION RECENTLY PROPOSED BY THE NATIONAL ADVISORY COMMISSION ON CRIMINAL JUSTICE STANDARDS AND GOALS.
