EXPLANATION OF THE SUCCESS OF THE TAMPA (FL) PILOT PROJECT WHICH RESULTED IN THE REPLACEMENT OF THE USE OF DETENTION CENTERS FOR STATUS OFFENDERS WITH PLACEMENT IN VOLUNTEER FAMILY HOMES.
Abstract
ANALYSIS OF DETENTION PATTERNS IN FLORIDA REVEALED THAT APPROXIMATELY 44 PERCENT OF CHILDREN BEING DETAINED IN SECURE FACILITIES NEEDED ONLY TEMPORARY SHELTER AND SUPERVISION. STATUS OFFENDERS WERE PLACED IN HOMES FOR A TWO WEEK MAXIMUM PERIOD.
