THIS REPORT SUMMARIZES THE FINDINGS OF STUDIES MADE OF FOUR ADULT AND THREE JUVENILE PROBATION SUBSIDY PROGRAMS IN SIX CALIFORNIA COUNTIES.
Abstract
THE SIX COUNTIES INCLUDED IN THE EVALUATION WERE FRESNO, LOS ANGELES, RIVERSIDE, SACRAMENTO, SAN FRANCISCO, AND SAN MATEO. EACH OF THOSE PROJECTS ARE DESCRIBED AND ANALYZED AND PROJECTS IN FRESNO, LOS ANGELES, RIVERSIDE, AND SAN MATEO COUNTIES ARE FURTHER ANALYZED IN TERMS OF RECIDIVISM DATA. THE STUDIES REVEALED THAT SUBSIDY PROGRAMS USUALLY SERVE MORE DIFFICULT OFFENDERS THAN DO CONVENTIONAL PROBATION PROGRAMS AND INDICATED THAT SPECIALIZED SUBSIDY PROGRAMS CAN AND DO HAVE A SIGNIFICANT EFFECT ON THE REHABILITATION OF OFFENDERS AND ON INCREASING PUBLIC SAFETY.
