PSYCHOLOGICAL TESTING OF APPROXIMATELY 100 ADOLESCENT GIRLS WHO HAVE APPEARED BEFORE THE FRENCH JUVENILE COURTS SHOWS THAT THE SOCIALLY MALADJUSTED GIRLS HAD MORE NEGATIVE SELF IMAGES THAN THE CONTROL GROUP.
Abstract
THE PSYCHOLOGICAL TESTS UTILIZED IN THIS STUDY INCLUDED THE THREE PERSONS TEST, A SENTENCE COMPLETION TEST, AND A DRAWING TEST. THESE ALLOWED AN EVALUATION OF THE YOUTHS' FEELINGS OF PERSONAL VALUE, POTENTIALITY FOR CONTRACT, AND TIME PLACEMENT. RESULTS OF THESE TESTS WERE COMPARED TO THOSE OF A MATCHED CONTROL GROUP. THE RESULTS ARE PRESENTED ACCORDING TO THE AGE AND SOCIAL SITUATION OF THE SUBJECTS. IT WAS FOUND THAT DELINQUENT GIRLS MORE OFTEN HAVE A NEGATIVE IMAGE OF THEMSELVES THAN OTHER ADOLESCENT FEMALES; THAT THEY EXPERIENCE MORE FEELINGS OF REJECTION BY SOCIETY; THAT THEY ARE MORE OFTEN NARCISSISTIC AND REFUSE THE PAST MUCH MORE OFTEN THAN FEMALES FROM THE CONTROL GROUP; AND THAT OLDER DELINQUENT GIRLS AND THOSE IN INSTITUTIONS AT THE TIME OF THE TESTS SHOWED A WORSE IMAGE OF THEMSELVES THAN OTHER DELINQUENT GIRLS.
