THIS ARTICLE REPORTS THE RESULTS OF A STUDY TO DETERMINE THE VALIDITY OF A WRITTEN INSTRUMENT THAT SURVEYS THE ATTITUDES OF POLICE OFFICERS TOWARD THEIR CAREERS.
Abstract
THE QUESTIONNAIRE WAS DEVELOPED BY THE MARQUETTE UNIVERSITY LAW SCHOOL'S CENTER FOR CRIMINAL JUSTICE AGENCY ORGANIZATION AND MINORITY EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES. THE GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE INSTRUMENT WAS TO OBTAIN INFORMATION WHICH COULD BE UTILIZED TO PRESENT A REALISTIC PROFILE OF THE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF A LAW ENFORCEMENT CAREER AND TO PROVIDE SPECIFIC FEEDBACK THAT COULD BE USEFUL FOR MANAGERIAL IMPROVEMENT. THE QUESTIONNAIRE WAS DISTRIBUTED TO SWORN PERSONNEL OF THE LAS CRUCES, NEW MEXICO, POLICE DEPARTMENT DURING MARCH 1975.
