THE FIRST CHAPTER EXPLAINS IN GENERAL TERMS HOW COMPUTERIZED RETRIEVAL SYSTEMS OPERATE. DETAILED EXPLANATIONS OF A SYSTEM CALLED LEXIS BY THE MEAD DATA CENTRAL, INC. AND THE WESTLAW SYSTEM OF WEST PUBLISHING COMPANY ARE PRESENTED. THE FOLLOWING CHAPTER COMPARES THE LEXIS AND WESTLAW SYSTEMS WITH THE JURIS SYSTEM OF THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE.
