TRACE ELEMENT ANALYSIS OF HUMAN HAIR CAN BE ACHIEVED BY SPARK SOURCE MASS SPECTROMETRY.
Abstract
THIS ANALYSIS IS ACCOMPLISHED BY VIEWING AN ASHED MIXTURE OF FINELY CHOPPED HUMAN HAIR AND A METALLIC MATRIX. STATISTICAL COMPARISON OF RESULTS REVEAL THAT A LARGE NUMBER OF ELEMENTS IN HUMAN HAIR CAN BE SUCCESSFULLY IDENTIFIED. POTENTIAL USES ARE AS A CLINICAL DIAGNOSTIC AID TO REFLECT TRACE ELEMENTS IN THE BODY SUCH AS TOXIC METALS, AND AS A TIME DEPENDENT RECORDING FOR LONG TERM EFFECTS.
