THIS RESEARCH PAPER ATTEMPTED TO SURVEY THE SEVERITIES OF A WIDE RANGE OF CRIMINAL BEHAVIORS AS PERCEIVED BY A NATIONAL SAMPLE OF THE U.S. POPULATION.
Abstract
THE PAPER SOUGHT TO DETERMINE IF A POWER FUNCTION SCALE OF CRIME SEVERITIES COULD BE GENERATED FROM THE SAMPLE OF THE POPULATION THAT WAS SURVEYED. THE PURPOSE WAS TO DETERMINE IF CENSUS INTERVIEWERS OPERATING IN THE AVERAGE HOUSEHOLD MILIEU COULD ELICIT ESTIMATIONS OF THE RELATIVE SEVERITY OF OFFENSES. THE EXPERIMENTERS BASED THEIR QUESTIONING ON THE SEVERITY OF BICYCLE THEFT AS COMPARED TO OTHER CRIMES....BDS
