FACED WITH A RAPID RISE IN THE NUMBER OF ROBBERIES AND ATTEMPTED ROBBERIES OF BANKS AND OTHER FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS, A COALITION OF BANK PERSONNEL, LOCAL AND STATE POLICE DEVELOPED NEW BANK SECURITY MEASURES.
Abstract
HOWEVER, ANALYSIS OF THE ARMED ROBBERIES PERPETRATED DURING 1973, 1974, AND 1975 REVEALED AS HIGH AS A 30 PERCENT RATE OF NONUTILIZATION OF SECURITY SYSTEMS (INCLUDING AUDIBLE ALARMS, CONCEALABLE CASH DRAWERS, SILENT ALARM HOOKUPS WITH THE POLICE, AND ELECTRONIC CAMERAS). WHILE THE RATE OF NONUTILIZATION ROSE BETWEEN 1974 AND 1975 FOR THE FIRST THREE SECURITY SYSTEMS, IT FELL (FROM 51 PERCENT IN 1974 TO 35.5 PERCENT IN 1975) FOR THE CAST. THWARTED HOLDUPS IN 1974 AND 1975, 60 AND 65 RESPECTIVELY, INVOLVED 60 BANKS HAVING PROTECTED TELLER CAGES, 99 HAVING AUDIBLE ALARMS, 106 HAVING CONCEALABLE CASH DRAWERS, 64 HAVING A HOOKUP WITH POLICE STATIONS, 28 HAVING ELECTRONIC CAMERAS, AND 35 HAVING ELECTRICALLY CONTROLLED ENTRANCES AND EXITS. FURTHER COOPERATIVE EFFORTS BETWEEN POLICE AND BANK OFFICIALS INCLUDE AN ANNUAL STATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF ARMED ROBBERIES AND ATTEMPTED ROBBERIES OF BANKING INSTITUTIONS. A SERIES OF ROUND TABLE DISCUSSIONS LEADING TO A SEVEN-POINT PROTOCOL AGREEMENT ON BANK SECURITY, INSTITUTION OF A CLOSE WORKING RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PRIVATE SECURITY PERSONNEL AND THE POLICE, AND COOPERATION ON THE TRAINING OF BANK PERSONNEL. --IN FRENCH...ELW
