STANDARDS AND GOALS RELATING TO ORGANIZATION OF THE COURT SYSTEM, CRIMINAL CASE FLOW, LITIGATED CASES, SENTENCING, REVIEW OF TRIAL COURT PROCEEDINGS, ARE SPELLED OUT.
Abstract
THESE STANDARDS ARE BASED ON RECOMMENDATIONS DEVELOPED BY THE COURT COMMITTEE OF THE GOVERNOR'S COMMISSION, STATE OF MARYLAND, AND WERE ADOPTED BY THE FULL COMMISSION IN OCTOBER, 1976. THE STANDARDS ARE DIVIDED INTO SECTIONS CORRESPONDING TO THE VARIOUS ASPECTS OF THE COURT PROCESS. EACH IS ANNOTATED AS TO SOURCE (EITHER AN EXISTING STANDARD ESTABLISHED BY THE NATIONAL ADVISORY COMMISSION OR THE AMERICAN BAR ASSOCIATION, A STANDARD DRAFTED BY THE COMMITTEE, OR ONE DEVELOPED FROM ANOTHER SOURCE SUCH AS THE MARYLAND CODE). THE SECTION ON COURT-COMMUNITY RELATIONS CONSIDERS SUCH AREAS AS COMPENSATION OF WITNESSES, INFORMATION AND SERVICE FACILITIES FOR THOSE USING THE COURTS, AND DEVELOPMENT OF A PLAN FOR MASS DISORDERS.
