THE SECTIONS INCLUDE: THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM; THE CRIMINAL TRIAL; SENTENCING PROCEDURES AND ALTERNATIVES; CRIMINAL APPEALS; POSTCONVICTION REMEDIES; AND SELECTED ORGANIZATIONS WORKING FOR COURT REFORM. MOST SECTIONS ARE DIVIDED INTO SUBSECTIONS; EACH SUBSECTION IS PRECEDED BY A HEADNOTE ATTEMPTING TO CLARIFY THE NATURE OF THE ITEMS IN THAT SUBSECTION. THE SUBJECT MATTER OF THE ITEMS WITHIN THE SECTION, ALTHOUGH CLOSELY RELATED, MAY VARY.
