VARIOUS BOOKS, REPORTS, AND JOURNAL ARTICLES ARE CITED IN AN EFFORT TO UNDERSCORE ESTIMATIONS OF CRIME RATES AND COSTS, THE RATIONALE BEHIND THE CRIMINALIZATION OF CERTAIN ACTS OF DEVIANCE IN THE FACE OF THE LEGAL STATUS OF CERTAIN OTHER FORMS OF DEVIANCE, NATURE OF CHANGES IN RATES OF CRIME AND DEVIANCE, THE SOCIAL AND INDIVIDUAL NATURE OF CRIME CAUSES, THE NATURE AND EFFECTIVENESS OF DETERRENCE AND REHABILITATION EFFORTS, AND WHETHER OR NOT RADICAL CHANGE IS NECESSARY WITHIN SOCIETY TO COUNTERACT RISING CRIME AND DEVIANCE.
