Abstract
VARIOUS SCENES OF FRAUD AND PERSONAL ASSAULT ARE SHOWN AS THE NARRATOR EXPLAINS THE CRIMES AND HOW TO PREVENT THEM. THE FIRST SCENE DEPICTS THE SWINDLING OF AN UNSUSPECTING OLD MAN IN A CARD GAME. HE DOES NOT REALIZE THAT THE YOUNG MEN HE IS PLAYING WITH ARE PLANNING TO CHEAT HIM OUT OF HIS WINNINGS. THE MAN WINS A LARGE SUM OF MONEY, BUT THE GROUP DEMANDS PROOF THAT HE HAD HAD ENOUGH MONEY TO PAY THEM IF THEY HAD WON. HE GOES TO GET MONEY AS PROOF, AND WHILE HE IS GONE, THE CARD SHARKS SWITCH THE FULL MONEY BAG WITH ONE CONTAINING PAPER. IN THE NEXT SCENE, A WIDOW IS DEFRAUDED. ANOTHER SHOWS A COMMON TACTIC USED BY FRAUDULENT ROOFING COMPANIES. ROOFERS APPROACH A HOMEOWNER SAYING THAT THEY HAVE A GOOD DEAL FOR HIM. HOWEVER, HE DOES NOT REALIZE THAT THE ROOFERS PLAN TO USE MATERIALS THAT WILL ONLY LAST UNTIL IT RAINS AND THAT THE ROOFERS WILL BE OUT OF TOWN LONG BEFORE THE VICTIM FINDS OUT ABOUT THEM. THE NEXT TWO SCENES DEPICT CRIMES AGAINST WOMEN. ONE WOMAN IS WALKING IN A DARK ALLEYWAY, UNAWARE OF THE FACT THE SHE COULD BE RAPED. SOON, SHE IS MUGGED. THE FINAL SCENE SHOWS TWO YOUNG MEN WHO NEED MONEY TO BUY A TAPE DECK FOR THEIR CAR. ONE OF THEM DECIDES THAT THE BEST WAY TO GET THIS MONEY IS TO SNATCH PURSES FROM WOMEN SO THEY STEAL SEVERAL. THE NARRATOR THEN STRESSES THE FACT THAT PEOPLE SHOULD BE MORE SECURITY CONSCIOUS AND SHOULD TRY TO PREVENT CRIME, NOT ENCOURAGE IT. (BAC)
