A YEAR-END OVERVIEW OF THE PROBATION PROCESS IN COLORADO IS PRESENTED.
Abstract
THE HISTORY AND STRUCTURE OF THE COLORADO PROBATION EFFORT ARE DISCUSSED, AND THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE STATE COURT ADMINISTRATOR'S OFFICE ARE EXAMINED. THESE INCLUDE BUDGET FORMULATION, FORM STANDARDIZATION, DATA COLLECTION AND EVALUATION, PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT, SPECIAL PROJECT COORDINATION, INTERDEPARTMENTAL COORDINATION, AND STAFF DEVELOPMENT. PERSONNEL CONSIDERATIONS ARE DISCUSSED BRIEFLY, INCLUDING RECRUITMENT, LEVELS OF PROBATION OFFICER POSITIONS, PROBATION PERSONNEL DISTRIBUTION, AND SUPPLEMENTAL STAFFS. PROBATION PROCESS AND PROCEDURES ARE EXAMINED, WITH ATTENTION TO BOTH JUVENILE AND ADULT PROBATION. THE INTAKE PROCESS, THE COURT PROCESS, AND SUPERVISION ARE DISCUSSED CONCERNING BOTH ADULT AND JUVENILE PROBATIONERS. PROBATION POPULATION IS ALSO EXAMINED, WITH REFERENCE TO PROBATION CASELOADS, STATEWIDE PROBATIONER PROFILES, AND DETAILED PROFILES OF ADULT AND JUVENILE CLIENTS IN THE COLORADO PROBATION DEPARTMENTS. DEVELOPMENTS AND TRENDS IN PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT, INTERAGENCY COOPERATION, VOLUNTEER AND STUDENT INTERN PROGRAMS, COMMUNITY CORRECTIONS, AND RESTITUTION ARE DISCUSSED. EXTENSIVE TABULAR AND GRAPHIC DATA ARE PROVIDED THROUGHOUT THE VOLUME AND A GLOSSARY OF JUVENILE AND ADULT PROBATION TERMS IS INCLUDED. (KBL)
