THE REPORT IS IN TWO PARTS: THE ACTIVITIES OF THE COUNCIL, AND THE ACTIVITIES OF THE ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE OF THE COURTS, WHICH IS THE STAFF AGENCY SERVING THE COUNCIL. THE COUNCIL REPORT DESCRIBES THE IMPLEMENTATIONS OF CALIFORNIA'S DETERMINATE SENTENCING ACT, AND RECOMMENDATIONS FOR AMENDING THE STATE'S PENAL CODE AS IT RELATES TO REINSTATEMENT OF TIME FOR FILING A PETITION FOR REVIEW AFTER A PROSECUTION APPEAL. THE ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE REPORT CONTAINS A SUMMARY OF 1977 LEGISLATIVE ACTION ON COUNCIL RECOMMENDATIONS; CHANGES IN THE CALIFORNIA RULES OF COURT; AND INFORMATION ON ACTIVITIES RELATED TO JUDICIAL REDISTRICTING, JUSTICE COURT QUALIFYING EXAMINATIONS, JUDICIAL COUNCIL LEGAL FORMS, FEDERALLY FUNDED PROJECTS, COORDINATION OF MULTICOURT CIVIL ACTIONS, AND ARBITRATION IN SUPERIOR COURT. STATISTICS REGARDING CASELOADS, DISPOSITION, AND OTHER TOPICS ARE PRESENTED FOR THE STATE SUPREME COURT, COURTS OF APPEAL, SUPERIOR COURTS, MUNICIPAL COURTS, AND JUSTICE COURTS. STATISTICS ARE ALSO PRESENTED ON JUDICIAL ASSIGNMENTS AND ASSISTANCE. THE REPORT CONTAINS 35 TABLES. (LKM)
