A NETWORK DESIGN PROGRAM USER'S GUIDE FOR THE STATE CRIMINAL JUSTICE TELECOMMUNICATIONS (STACOM) PROJECT IS PRESENTED.
Abstract
THE NETWORK DESIGN PROGRAM IS WRITTEN IN FORTRAN V AND IMPLEMENTED ON A UNIVAC 1108 COMPUTER UNDER THE EXEC-8 OPERATING SYSTEM. IT ENABLES THE USER TO CONSTRUCT LEAST-COST NETWORK TOPOLOGIES FOR CRIMINAL JUSTICE DIGITAL TELECOMMUNICATIONS NETWORKS. THE OBJECTIVE OF THE STACOM NETWORK IS TO PROVIDE THE TOOLS NEEDED FOR DESIGNING AND EVALUATING INTRASTATE COMMUNICATION NETWORKS. A DESCRIPTION OF THE STACOM STORAGE STRUCTURE AND OF ITS PROGRAM STRUCTURE IS PROVIDED SO THAT A USER CAN EASILY COMPREHEND ITS CAPABILITIES AND LIMITATIONS. DETAILS OF THE OPTIONS AVAILABLE ARE PRESENTED, WITH A FUNCTIONAL BLOCK DIAGRAM AND A PROGRAM LISTING WITH COMMENT STATEMENTS SO THAT A USER CAN EXPAND OR IMPROVE THE PROGRAM CAPABILITIES BY EITHER CHANGING PARAMETER VALUES OR MODIFYING THE PROGRAM ITSELF. A SAMPLE RUN STREAM USED AS A REFERENCE RUN FOR CORRECT OPERATION AND AN INPUT/OUTPUT EXAMPLE ARE PROVIDED SO THAT A USER CAN EASILY OPERATE THE PROGRAM AS A TOOL FOR NETWORK DESIGN. APPENDIXES INCLUDE A STACOM PROGRAM LISTING AND A GLOSSARY OF TERMS. VARIOUS CHARTS, FIGURES AND TABLES PROVIDE INFORMATION ON THE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK. REFERENCES ARE INCLUDED. FOR THE EXECUTIVE SUMMARY, VOLUME 1 OF THIS REPORT, SEE NCJ-47221. (BAC)
