Abstract
THE USES OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE DATA AND THE PROCEDURES FOR CRIME REPORTING IN WISCONSIN ARE DISCUSSED. CRIME DATA IS REPORTED AT THE STATE, POPULATION GROUP, ADMINISTRATIVE DISTRICT, AND COUNTY LEVELS. BOTH VIOLENT AND PROPERTY CRIMES ARE CONSIDERED IN GENERAL, AND MURDER, RAPE, ROBBERY, AGGRAVATED ASSAULT, BURGLARY, THEFT, AND MOTOR VEHICLE THEFT ARE REPORTED ON INDIVIDUALLY. CLEARANCES AND ARRESTS ARE TOTALLED AND DEATHS AND ASSAULTS ON LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS ARE CONSIDERED. CRIME RATES ARE CORRELATED WITH POPULATION DENSITY AND COUNTIES ARE RANKED ACCORDING TO THEIR CRIME RATES. DETAILED INFORMATION IS PRESENTED IN THE SECOND PART OF THE REPORT TO CORRESPOND TO THE FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATIONS' 'CRIME IN THE UNITED STATES' ANNUAL REPORT. DATA IS PRESENTED ACCORDING TO POLITICAL SUBDIVISIONS AND POPULATION CATEGORIES. REPORTS ON JUVENILE ARRESTS ARE PRESENTED, AND THE AGE, SEX, AND RACE OF ADULT AND JUVENILE OFFENDERS ARE CORRELATED WITH RESPECTIVE CRIME PERCENTAGES. OFFENSE TRENDS ARE INDICATED. A GLOSSARY, AGENCY INDEX, AND INDEX TO OFFENSES AND SUBJECT ANALYSIS ARE PROVIDED. (DAG)
