MANUFACTURERS, ADVANTAGES/DISADVANTAGES, AND OPERATION OF THE EIGHT SPEED RELOADING DEVICES FOR REVOLVERS CURRENTLY ON THE MARKET ARE PRESENTED.
Abstract
THE SPEED WITH WHICH RELOADING IS ACCOMPLISHED CAN BE CRUCIAL IN COMBAT SITUATIONS INVOLVING POLICE AND ARMED SUSPECTS. WHILE RELOADING AN AUTOMATIC WEAPON IS A SIMPLE AND QUICK OPERATION, RELOADING OF REVOLVERS IS MORE DIFFICULT AND TIME-CONSUMING. SPEED RELOADERS CAN AID THE OFFICER IN REDUCING HIS RELOADING TIME IN EMERGENCY SITUATIONS, AND ARE PREFERABLE TO CARRYING FRESH AMMUNITION IN A CARTRIDGE BELT OR CASE. THE SECOND SIX IS A RIGID, LIGHT, AND RUGGED COMPACT DEVICE. IT HOLDS SIX ROUNDS AND IS DESIGNED TO FULLY SEAT SIX ROUNDS IN THE CHAMBER AT ONCE. THE SPEED RELOADER IS MADE TO PROPEL ANY TYPE OF REVOLVER AMMUNITION INTO A REVOLVER CYLINDER AND TO AUTOMATICALLY RELEASE THE SHELLS FROM THE LOADER. IN ADDITION, THIS DEVICE IS DESIGNED FOR FAST NIGHT LOADING, PROMOTES SAFE GUN HANDLING, HAS SNAP ON BELT HOLDERS, AND REQUIRES NO STANDARD GRIP ALTERATION. HOWEVER, A LOT OF PRACTICE IS REQUIRED TO MASTER THIS DEVICE. THE BIANCHI SPEED STRIP HOLDS THE CARTRIDGES IN A STRAIGHT LINE. IT IS MOLDED FROM SPECIAL WEATHER-PROOF NEOPRENE AND HOLDS SIX ROUNDS OF 38 SPECIAL OR 357 MAGNUM AMMUNITION. ALTHOUGH IT CAN ONLY LOAD ONE OR TWO ROUNDS AT A TIME, ITS NARROW WIDTH MAKES IT IDEAL FOR CARRYING IN A POCKET. THE SIX SECOND RELOADER IS RUGGED, EASY TO OPERATE, HOLDS LOADS SECURELY, AND PERMITS ONE-HANDED USE. THE MATICH QUICK LOADER IS A PLIABLE NONMECHANICAL DEVICE IN A STRIP DESIGN. ALTHOUGH ITS USE REQUIRES PRACTICE, NO ALTERATION ON THE WEAPON GRIP IS REQUIRED. THE KEL-LITE LOADER, THE OLDEST TYPE, IS AVAILABLE FOR FIVE OR SIX SHOT WEAPONS. ITS DESIGN USUALLY REQUIRES NO GRIP ALTERATION, ALTHOUGH THE CARTRIDGE RELEASE BUTTON MAY BE RELEASED INADVERTENTLY AND FOUL UP THE ENTIRE OPERATION. THE DADE LOADER IS WELLMADE, FAST, AND EASY TO USE BUT HAS A NUMBER OF DRAWBACKS; ITS LARGE CIRCUMFERENCE MAY REQUIRE ALTERATION OF CUSTOM GRIPS, AND IF THE DEVICE IS DROPPED THE SHELLS MAY BE DISLODGED. THE BYE SPEED LOADING SYSTEM CAN BE USED WITH ANY 38/357 CALIBER WEAPON, IS COMPLETELY RELIABLE, FAST, AND EASY TO USE. IT IS ABLE TO LOAD ALL SIX CHAMBERS AT ONCE. OF ALL EIGHT DEVICES TESTED, THIS WAS ONE OF THE EASIEST, IF NOT THE EASIEST, TO USE WITHOUT THE DISADVANTAGES OF SOME OF THE OTHERS. THE AMMO-WALLET, THE AUTO MAGAZINE WALLET, AND THE CASE-GUARD ARE THREE PRODUCTS USEFUL FOR HOLDING EXTRA AMMUNITION. (JAP)
