THE AUSTRALIAN INSTITUTE OF CRIMINOLOGY CONDUCTED A 5-DAY SEMINAR TO CONSIDER HUMAN-BASED RESEARCH RELATIVE TO THE INVESTIGATION AND PREVENTION OF ARMED ROBBERY, INFORMATION DISSEMINATION, AND BUILDING DESIGN.
Abstract
SEMINAR PARTICIPANTS EXCHANGED IDEAS AND INFORMATION WITH REPRESENTATIVES OF OCCUPATIONAL GROUPS, INCLUDING THE POLICE, INSURERS, ARCHITECTS AND PRIVATE PROTECTORS, RESEARCHERS, BANKERS, EMPLOYEE ASSOCIATIONS, AND THE ACADEMIC COMMUNITY. THEIR PRESENTATIONS DEALT WITH THE NATURE AND EXTENT OF ARMED ROBBERY IN AUSTRALIA, RESEARCH PRIORITIES IN OPERATIONAL PLANNING AGAINST ARMED HOLDUPS, ARMED ROBBERY SECURITY IN PARTICULAR TARGET LOCATIONS, POLICE AND RESEARCH ROLES IN ARMED ROBBERY, HUMAN-BASED RESEARCH ON THE INVESTIGATION AND PREVENTION OF ARMED ROBBERY, THE NEED FOR A NATIONAL ARMED ROBBERY DATA SERVICE, PROBLEMS IN DATA COLLECTION, THE ROLE OF PRIVATE AGENCIES IN THE PROTECTIVE SECURITY FUNCTION OF ARMED ROBBERY, ANTIROBBERY BUILDING DESIGN, EMPLOYEE-RELATED CONSIDERATIONS CONCERNING ANTIROBBERY BUILDING DESIGN, ANTIROBBERY HARDWARE (APPLICATIONS AND RESEARCH), SECURITY PHILOSOPHY AND ACTIONS OF THE SOUTH AUSTRALIAN TOTALIZATOR AGENCY BOARD, TECHNOLOGICAL HARDWARE AND BUILDING DESIGN AS DEFENSES AGAINST ARMED ROBBERY, AND FEDERAL BANK ROBBERY VIOLATIONS IN THE UNITED STATES.
