THESE GROUP HOME PERSONNEL STANDARDS HAVE BEEN PREPARED BY THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS' DIVISION OF YOUTH SERVICES TO GUARANTEE QUALITY TREATMENT FOR ALL JUVENILES IN THE STATE RECEIVING RESIDENTIAL SERVICES.
Abstract
THE SALARY RANGE OF GROUP HOME PERSONNEL, INCLUDING THE DIRECTOR, COUNSELORS, COUNSELOR TRAINEES, CLERK-TYPISTS, COOKS-HOUSEKEEPERS, AND MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL, IS FROM $4,920 TO $15,000. SALARY INCREMENTS ARE BASED ON MERIT AND CAN BE MADE AT A RATE NOT TO EXCEED TWO STEPS PER YEAR. NEW EMPLOYEES CAN BE GRANTED A ONE-STEP INCREMENT AFTER THE SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THEIR PROBATIONARY PERIOD. THE TYPICAL STAFFING PATTERN IN A GROUP HOME INCLUDES 12 TO 15 PERSONS. STAFFING PATTERNS, AS WELL AS CHANGES IN STAFFING PATTERNS, ARE BASED ON THE TYPE OF PROGRAM OFFERED AND DEMANDS PLACED ON THE PROGRAM BY RESIDENTS SERVED. JOB DESCRIPTIONS ARE GIVEN FOR THE DIRECTOR, OUTREACH COUNSELORS, COUNSELORS WHO PROVIDE CARE AND DIRECT SUPERVISION, COUNSELOR TRAINEES, CLERK-TYPISTS, COOKS-HOUSEKEEPERS, AND MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL. FOR EACH POSITION DESCRIBED, THE FOLLOWING TYPES OF INFORMATION ARE SPECIFIED: DISTINGUISHED FEATURES OF WORK, EXAMPLES OF WORK, AND QUALIFICATION STANDARDS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS). A CHART OF CAREER LADDER MOVEMENT IN A TYPICAL GROUP HOME IS INCLUDED.
