THE 1978 ANNUAL REPORT OF THE ILLINOIS LEGISLATIVE INVESTIGATING COMMISSION IS PRESENTED.
Abstract
THE ILLINOIS LEGISLATIVE INVESTIGATING COMMISSION WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1971 AS AN ALL-PURPOSE COMMISSION DESIGNED TO PROVIDE MEMBERS OF THE ILLINOIS GENERAL ASSEMBLY WITH FACILITIES, EQUIPMENT, AUTHORITY, AND TECHNICAL STAFF TO CONDUCT INVESTIGATIONS AND HEARINGS ON ANY MATTER UPON WHICH THE ASSEMBLY MAY LEGISLATE. THE COMMISSION'S APPROPRIATION FROM THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY FOR 1978 WAS $582,400. DURING 1978, 5 OF 13 INVESTIGATIONS WERE COMPLETED. THE INVESTIGATIONS COMPLETED WERE ON THE FOLLOWING TOPICS; (1) ARSON, (2) ILLEGAL ALIENS, (3) NATURAL GAS UTILITY RATES, (4) HOMOWNERS' INSURANCE, AND (5) SEXUAL CHILD ABUSE. PENDING INVESTIGATIONS ARE OUTLINED. DETAILS OF THE ILLINOIS LEGISLATIVE INVESTIGATING COMMISSION ACT ARE PRESENTED. A LIST OF ALL INVESTIGATIONS CONDUCTED BY THE COMMISSION AND TABLES PRESENTING PERSONNEL AND EXPENDITURE DATA ARE PROVIDED. A BIBLIOGRAPHY OF ALL COMMISSION PUBLICATIONS IS APPENDED. (MLC)
