Abstract
THE REPORT OPENS WITH A DESCRIPTION OF THE DEPARTMENT'S ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE AND FUNCTIONS, A FINANCIAL REPORT, AND SUMMARIES OF THE ROLES OF FOUR CITIZEN ADVISORY BOARDS. SEPARATE SECTIONS DISCUSS IN DETAIL THE ACTIVITIES OF FOUR DIVISIONS: (1) LEGAL SERVICES (TRANSPORTATION, CONSUMER PROTECTION, LABOR AND INDUSTRY, ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION, CRIMINAL APPEALS, GENERAL GOVERNMENT SERVICES, ANTITRUST, CRIMINAL PROSECUTION), (2) CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION (ARSON, NARCOTICS AND VICE, WHITE-COLLAR CRIMES, GENERAL INVESTIGATIONS), (3) LAW ENFORCEMENT SERVICES (CRIME LABORATORIES, INFORMATION, TRAINING, STANDARDS), AND (4) ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES. THE REPORT DOCUMENTS SUBSTANTIAL INCREASES IN THE WORKLOAD OF THE DEPARTMENT, WHICH WAS CREATED BY LEGISLATIVE REORGANIZATION IN 1967. AMONG THE DEPARTMENT'S ACCOMPLISHMENTS DURING THE REPORTING PERIOD WAS THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A REGIONAL CRIME LABORATORY IN A HIGH-CRIME AREA OF THE STATE. WORKLOAD AND FINANCIAL DATA ARE PROVIDED.
