THE STUDY WAS CONDUCTED BY NCCD FOR THE PRESIDENT'S COMMISSION ON LAW ENFORCEMENT AND ADMINISTRATION OF JUSTICE. THE SURVEY USED DATA FROM CORRECTIONAL PROGRAMS, GROUP MEETINGS WITH CORRECTIONAL LEADERS, PUBLISHED REPORTS AND STUDIES. GENERAL AREAS SURVEYED ARE JUVENILE DETENTION, PROBATION, INSTITUTIONS AND AFTERCARE, MISDEMEANANT PROBATION, LOCAL ADULT CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTIONS AND JAILS, ADULT PROBATION, STATE CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTIONS FOR ADULTS, AND PAROLE. A NATIONAL PROFILE OF CORRECTION IS INCLUDED AS A SUMMARY.
