A HANDBOOK FOR INMATES PARTICIPATING IN THE NEW HAMPSHIRE STATE PRISON'S 6-MONTH PRERELEASE PROGRAM IS PRESENTED.
Abstract
THE PROGRAM COMBINES THE SERVICES OF INSTITUTION-BASED AND COMMUNITY-BASED STAFF TO HELP INMATES PREPARE FOR THEIR RELEASE FROM PRISON. PARTICIPATING INMATES ATTEND WEEKLY COUNSELING SESSIONS AND COMMUNITY AWARENESS CLASSES, RECEIVE ASSISTANCE IN FINDING JOBS, AND DEVELOP THEIR OWN PAROLE PLANS. THE HANDBOOK EXPLAINS THE PRERELEASE PROGRAM TO INMATES, OUTLINING PROGRAM ACTIVITIES MONTH BY MONTH AND PROVIDING INMATES WITH A FORM ON WHICH TO RECORD THEIR PROGRESS. THE MAIN BODY OF THE HANDBOOK PRESENTS INFORMATION ON THE LEGAL RIGHTS OF RELEASED OFFENDERS; MOTOR VEHICLE OPERATION (APPLYING FOR A LICENSE, REGISTERING A CAR, GETTING INSURANCE, ETC,); AND SOURCES OF ASSISTANCE (FINANCIAL COUNSELING SERVICES, FINANCIAL AID, SOCIAL SERVICES, FOOD STAMPS, EMPLOYMENT SERVICES, MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES, VETERANS' BENEFITS, EDUCATION AND VOCATIONAL REHABILITATION PROGRAMS, ALCOHOL AND DRUG ABUSE PROGRAMS, PRIVATE-SECTOR SOURCES OF ASSISTANCE). ALSO INCLUDED IS SPACE FOR INMATES TO RECORD CLASSROOM NOTES ON JOB APPLICATIONS AND RESUME WRITING, JOB INTERVIEWS, GROUP COUNSELING SESSIONS, AVOIDING PROBLEMS WITH THE LAW, PAROLE PLANNING, AND JOB PREPARATION.
