THIS STUDENT HANDBOOK DESCRIBES THE VARIETY OF TUTORING, BASIC SKILLS PROGRAMS, GENERAL EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT (GED) COURSES, HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA COURSES, AND COLLEGE CREDIT COURSES OFFERED BY THE NEW HAMPSHIRE STATE PRISON.
Abstract
IT ALSO EXPLAINS INMATE APPLICATION PROCEDURES FOR THE PROGRAMS, THE ATTENDANCE POLICY, THE EDUCATIONAL PASS PROCEDURE, AND USE OF THE LIBRARY. AN INTERLIBRARY LOAN AND A REFERENCE SERVICE ARE AVAILABLE. COURSES OFFERED INCLUDE BASIC AND REMEDIAL READING, BASIC WRITING COURSES, WRITING COURSES SLANTED TOWARD JOB APPLICATIONS AND RESUMES, AND A NUMBER OF LITERATURE COURSES LASTING 6 TO 8 WEEKS. THE MATHEMATICS PROGRAM RANGES FROM BASIC SKILLS COURSES TO CONSUMER MATH, SHOP AND CONSTRUCTION MATH, AND PROPER USE OF THE CALCULATOR. THE SOCIAL STUDIES CURRICULUM EMPHASIZESS COURSES RELATED TO CONSUMER LAW, PERSONAL RIGHTS, LANDLORD AND TENANT LAW, AMERICAN HISTORY, THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM, AND CONTEMPORARY AMERICAN SOCIAL PROBLEMS. COURSES IN GENERAL SCIENCE, LIFE SCIENCE, AND EARTH SCIENCES, BASIC PHYSICS, THE HUMAN BODY, MEDICAL SELF-HELP, ASTRONOMY, AND MATTER ARE PROVIDED. HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMAS MAY BE COMPLETED THROUGH THIS PROGRAM AND CREDIT IS GIVEN FOR WORK AND MILITARY EXPERIENCE. (GLR)
